The Department of Agronomy has been in existence for over 70 years, founded in 1946. We have identified “Feeding the World” as our centerpiece and aspire to cultivate leadership experts in agriculture and agronomy. Besides inheriting this ancient and important industry and aspiration, we also staying on top of industry news and trends, always seek out new changes. Hence, traditional agronomy has combining with advanced agricultural technology such as molecular breeding, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and crop models (big data exploration) and has redefined the rural-based agricultural field. The education strategy of our department is enhancing crop science related research and education with macro perspectives and rigorous scientific attitude, establish innovative education initiatives combining traditional learning system so that students can learn more effectively in this digital age.
Disastrous threats to crop productions have posed by global climate change, therefore the research and development of crop science has become the focus of global attention, leading the development of agriculture 4.0 (smart agriculture) and sustainable agriculture. The department of Agronomy plays a decisive role in order to propose an implement strategy and leading a new generation of agricultural system models that could meet the challenge of global climate changes.
